Light Pollution Regulations in Practice: Challenges and Perspectives

The PLAN-B Project invites policymakers, researchers, industry professionals, and stakeholders to participate in an international online workshop focused on the regulation of ALAN.

This event will explore the current landscape and future direction of light pollution policy and regulations through expert presentations, panel discussions, and collaborative dialogue.

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬

The primary aim is to support the development of an evidence-based policy brief on light pollution, to be submitted to the European Commission by June 2025. The workshop will:

• Share national and regional experiences in light pollution legislation
• Identify common regulatory challenges and gaps
• Highlight best practices and emerging trends in ALAN governance
• Facilitate cross-sectoral dialogue and cooperation

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭

• Presentations by national experts on recent regulatory developments (we will hear about experiences in the Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, the UK, Australia and beyond)
• Contributions from intergovernmental and industry representatives
• Panel discussions on practical challenges and policy alignment
• Open dialogue to shape future EU and international standards

Among the invited speakers are Anna Pasková, Samuel Busson, Marieta Valdivia Lefort (FRAS), David Smith, Elena Scaroni, representatives from CIE, Dan Oakley and Yana Yakushina.
